FAQ

Straight answers to what people actually ask.

No marketing spin. If the answer is "it depends," we say that — and explain what it depends on.

Scheduling & new patients

Before you book.

How soon can I be seen?

Most non-urgent new-patient appointments book within 10–14 days. Existing patients can usually get a cleaning or follow-up within a week. Dental emergencies — tooth pain, a swollen face, a broken tooth — are triaged same day during business hours.

What happens at a first visit?

The Precision Visit is 90 minutes: digital imaging, a 3D intraoral scan, a full exam with your dentist, and a cleaning (if your gums allow it same-day). You leave with a written, emailed plan. See the full New Patients page.

Do you see children?

Yes, age 3 and up. For pre-schoolers or children with significant anxiety, we'll sometimes recommend a pediatric specialist — we'll say so honestly if that's the better fit.

Do I need a referral?

No. Not for general, cosmetic, restorative, or most specialty work. If a treatment truly calls for an outside specialist — orthognathic surgery, IV sedation for complex medical histories — we'll refer you to a trusted partner and coordinate the care.

Can I bring someone with me?

Absolutely. Many patients bring a partner, friend, or family member — especially for consultations or longer visits. We have seating space in the operatory for one accompanying adult.

Insurance & cost

Paying for care.

Are you in-network with my PPO?

We're out-of-network with every PPO plan. That means we're not constrained by insurance-negotiated rates, but most PPOs still reimburse you at the same level whether you see an in-network dentist or us. We file claims on your behalf and estimate your out-of-pocket before we start.

Do you take HMO / DMO plans?

We don't accept HMO/DMO plans for in-network benefits. If you have one, we'd be happy to see you as a fee-for-service patient, but reimbursement through those plans is typically very limited.

Do you take Medicaid?

We don't currently participate in Medicaid. The Central Texas Dental Society maintains a list of Medicaid-accepting practices; we're glad to point you there.

What does the Precision Visit cost?

$249 flat if you don't have insurance. Typically $60–$140 out-of-pocket after a standard PPO. Free for members on our Complete or Periodontal plans.

Can I finance larger treatment?

Yes. We work with CareCredit (0% APR for 6, 12, 18, or 24 months) and Sunbit (split payments up to 72 months). In-house financing is available case-by-case for long-term patients. See Financing.

Is there a cash-pay discount?

Yes — 5% off any treatment paid in full at the start of care.

Clinical

Treatment & technology.

Do you use metal fillings?

No. We haven't placed amalgam since our first day. All fillings are tooth-colored composite or, for larger areas, pressed-ceramic inlays/onlays.

Are your X-rays safe?

We use low-dose digital sensors and a cone-beam CT (CBCT) only when imaging truly requires it. A full set of digital bitewings gives you less radiation than a cross-country flight.

Do you do root canals in-house?

Yes — most of them. Dr. Marsh performs endodontic treatment with a dental operating microscope for anterior and many molar cases. For anatomically complex molars, we refer to an endodontist and stay involved.

Do you place implants?

Yes. Dr. Keita plans and places implants in-house, with CBCT-guided surgery and a same-day provisional when appropriate. See the Implants page.

Can you see me for an emergency?

Yes. We hold same-day triage slots every weekday. Call (512) 555-8242 — if it's after hours, the message line is monitored and Dr. Marsh or Dr. Keita returns urgent calls within 60 minutes. See Emergency Care.

What about after-hours?

We're open Mon–Thu 7:30a–6p and Fri 7:30a–3p. Outside those hours, call the main line — you'll reach our triage voicemail. Life-threatening emergencies (uncontrolled bleeding, facial swelling that affects breathing, trauma with possible jaw fracture) should go to an ER immediately.

Anxiety, comfort & sedation

For the nervous.

I haven't been to a dentist in years. Are you going to lecture me?

No. We do not lecture. Many of our patients come back after long breaks — sometimes decades. We care where you want to go next, not what happened before.

Do you offer sedation?

Yes — nitrous oxide ($85), oral sedation ($295), and IV sedation ($850–$1,100/hr) by appointment with our sedation-certified team. See Anxious Care. Most patients don't need sedation for routine care; we're conservative in recommending it.

Can I meet the team before sitting in a chair?

Yes. Ask for a "meet-before-exam" when you book. It's a free 15-minute visit with your dentist and hygienist — no treatment, no pressure. Patients with dental anxiety use this often.

Do you use topical numbing before the injection?

Always. Gel for 2+ minutes, slow-delivery local anesthetic with a buffered solution to reduce the sting. If you've had painful numbing elsewhere, tell us — we'll slow down further.

What's the "stop signal"?

Before we start any treatment, we agree on a hand signal. Raise it, and we stop immediately — no questions, no "just one more second." You're in control of the appointment.

Records, privacy & logistics

The practical stuff.

Can I get my X-rays / records to share with another provider?

Yes. Always. They're your records. Email us and we'll export them in whatever format your other provider uses, usually within 2 business days.

How do you protect my data?

We use HIPAA-compliant practice-management software with encrypted-at-rest patient files and audit-logged access. Our intake forms run over TLS 1.3. See the Privacy Notice.

Do you run a waitlist?

Yes. If you tell us your flexibility (afternoon only, weekdays only, etc.), we call if a sooner slot opens. Typical waitlist fulfillment is 3–7 days from enrollment.

What's your cancellation policy?

We reserve a long slot for you. If you need to change it, please give us 48 hours' notice where possible. A short-notice cancellation fee ($75 for hygiene, $150 for longer appointments) applies after two same-day cancellations in a 12-month period.

Is there parking?

Yes. Free validated parking in the building garage (2 hours). Street parking on West 6th is metered.

Is the office accessible?

Yes. Elevator access from the garage, ADA-compliant restroom, and a hoyer-compatible dental chair if needed. Please let us know in advance so we have the right setup ready.
